Why Choose
Nick Landscapes

Clapham gardens are mostly flat, which sounds like it makes the job easier and often does the opposite, because the challenge here is space and access rather than levels. The Victorian terraces off Abbeville Road, Clapham Manor Street and the roads running down to the Common typically give you a long narrow strip and a side return that is barely wide enough to walk down, and on plenty of them there is no side access at all, so every slab, bag of sand and length of timber comes through the hallway on boards with the furniture moved out of the way. That shapes the plan, the timeline and the price, and we tell you all three upfront rather than discovering it on the first morning. Flat ground also means water has nowhere obvious to go, so falls have to be set deliberately and drainage designed properly, otherwise a new terrace becomes a puddle against the back wall every winter and eventually a damp problem inside. On the wider plots around the Old Town and the Common there is room to break a garden into zones with a raised deck or a change of material, which works far better than one large slab of paving. Underneath everything sits London clay that holds water and moves with the seasons, so sub-base depth and deck footings get built to take it. You get a written quote before anything is lifted and a crew that respects that people live here.

Areas We Cover

We work right across Clapham, covering Clapham Old Town, Abbeville Village, Clapham Park, Clapham North, Clapham South and the streets around the Common, along with neighbouring Stockwell, Brixton, Balham, Battersea, Wandsworth Common, Nine Elms and Kennington, and out towards Streatham, Tulse Hill, Herne Hill and Dulwich. Jobs range from a single terrace outside a kitchen extension to a full rear garden rebuild, plus resurfacing, repointing, repairs and seasonal cleaning of existing surfaces. A lot of SW4 work is behind flat conversions and shared gardens, where timings and noise have to be agreed with neighbours and freeholders, and plenty of it sits in conservation areas including Clapham Common, Old Town, Abbeville Road and The Chase, where the rear garden is generally unaffected but boundary walls and anything visible from the street may not be. We check before quoting.

Composite Decking Excellence

Give your Clapham garden a surface worth spending time on. We install low-maintenance composite decking, hardwood and softwood timber, Indian sandstone, clay pavers and full-body porcelain, chosen to suit your budget and the way the light moves down a long thin plot. On narrow gardens the layout matters as much as the material, so laying planks or paving across the width rather than along it makes a strip feel wider, and breaking the run with a step or a change of surface stops it reading as a corridor. Everything is prepared properly underneath, with correct sub-base depth, falls that carry water away from the house, and frames built to spec.
