Why Choose
Nick Landscapes
Almost every driveway in Norwood is a driveway on a slope, and that changes the job from the first spade in the ground. Frontages rising steeply from the pavement along Beulah Hill, Central Hill and the roads off Church Road need the gradient worked out properly, because too steep and cars ground their front bumper on the transition at the kerb, and too shallow and you lose the parking depth you were trying to create. Loose gravel is a poor choice on anything with real fall, since it migrates downhill and ends up in the gutter, so on steeper plots we'll steer you towards resin bound or block, which stay put. Water is the other constant, because a sloping frontage sheds everything it receives straight onto the public footway unless the falls, channels and soakaway are designed to catch it first, and that's before you get to the permeability rules on front garden surfacing. Underneath it all is London clay, which swells and shrinks through the seasons and will find any sub-base that was dug shallow or compacted in one lift rather than layers. On the older hill terraces a lot of frontages are also retained behind a low brick wall that has been quietly failing for years, and there's no sense laying a new surface on top of that without dealing with it. We look at all of this on site, tell you what we find, and give you one fixed itemised price.

Areas We Cover
Our yard is on Ellery Road, so Norwood frontages are the ones we see most, and we know how much the job varies across the three parts of it. We cover West Norwood and Tulse Hill in SE27, Upper Norwood and Crystal Palace in SE19, and South Norwood in SE25, plus Gipsy Hill, Sydenham, Forest Hill, Penge, Anerley, Thornton Heath, Selhurst, Streatham, Dulwich, Herne Hill and Beckenham. The borough split matters here more than anywhere, because a crossover application goes to Lambeth in West Norwood and to Croydon in South Norwood, the two have different processes and timescales, and the line runs awkwardly near the top of the hill, so we confirm which one applies to your address before quoting. The work ranges from single terraced frontages barely a car deep to the wide gated approaches on the ridge villas, along with rental properties and small commercial forecourts.

Block Paving
Excellence
On flat ground the sub-base is the whole argument. On a hill, levels matter just as much, because the transition from the pavement, the fall across the parking area and the point where the water leaves all have to be set before any material is chosen. We survey the gradient first, work out where the water goes, then build the excavation, compaction and edge restraints to take it. Resin bound, clay pavers, tarmac and gravel all have their place, and we'll say plainly if the surface you had in mind is wrong for the slope you've got.

Enhance Your Driveway Today!
Most Norwood frontages need more than a surface. Failing retaining walls and gate piers, steps up from the pavement that have shifted, drainage channels, soakaways, low voltage lighting into the paving, and automated or manual gates are all far cheaper to do while the ground is already dug out. We handle the brickwork and the electrics as part of the same job rather than sending you to three trades and digging the same frontage twice.
